We are excited the share the news that we have 11 students who have been selected for this year’s prestigious All-State and All-Northwest Honor Ensembles. Dolores Fritzsches (oboe) has been selected to be a member of the Oregon All-State Orchestra and the All-Northwest Orchestra. Vocalists Kendra Perkins, Margo Digiacinto, and Kristen Luna have been selected as members of this year’s All-State Honor Choir, and Madeleine Adriance, Sophie Caesar, Iris Cohn, Ana Hafley, Grace Hermes, Kristen Luna, Ori Marcu, Elena Volchok, and Sydney Wagner have all been selected to join the All-Northwest Honor Choirs.
The students selected for the All-State ensembles spent the weekend of January 13-15 in Eugene rehearsing with the best student musicians in the state and working with renowned conductors Dr. Janet Galvan (Ithaca College) and Adam Boyles (MIT, Hartford Symphony). All-Northwest student musicians travelled to Bellevue, Washington, the weekend of February 16-18, to rehearse with the top musicians from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming, and worked with Dr. Betsy Cook Weber (University of Houston), Gerard Schwartz (Seattle Symphony), and legendary conductor Dr. Anton Armstrong (St. Olaf College). Both weekends culminated in gala concerts at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene and in Benaroya Hall in Seattle.
We are very proud of our students who auditioned this past fall for this opportunity and are thrilled with the experiences and educational value they shared with other elite high school musicians. It is an honor for students to be invited to an all-state or all-northwest ensemble and we are honored that St. Mary’s has been so well represented.
