A Season of Choice and Consequence
This year the SMA theatre department is producing plays that explore the themes of choice and consequence. This fall we explored the question “Why do we make bad choices?” in our production of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. With a cast and crew of over 50 students, Macbeth was a successful way to start off our season.

Up Next: The SMA Studio Theatre season enters its second year with a classic Christmas story!
For the second production in our Choice and Consequence season, SMA Studio Theatre director Tara Hershberger brings A Christmas Carol to life. With this beloved tale we discover that by recognizing the consequences of our choices, we can find forgiveness and redemption.

A Christmas Carol, adapted from the Charles Dickens’s novel by Frederick Gaines, is an updated version of the classic story of an old miser who is visited by three spirits, and with opened eyes and touched heart, becomes a symbol for generosity and compassion.
A Christmas Carol will feature dozens of SMA students in the cast and crew, including many making their SMA theatre debut. Come see our female-centric version of the tale of Scrooge, with music and movement to transport you and have you saying “God bless us, every one!” A Christmas Carol will be performed in the student commons on December 9 and 10, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
COMING UP in 2017:
The Sound of Music

This beloved story follows Maria as she leaves the safety of the convent to become the governess of seven delightful and spirited children. As Maria learns to choose love over fear, her life, the lives of the children, and the life of their father all become richer and more joyful.
